My husband’s bourbon-themed 30th birthday party is coming up fast, so I’ve been busy ironing out last-minute details. I grabbed a few snapshots of what I’ve been up to to share with you today.
As an early birthday present, my parents sent my husband and I a set of three vintage whiskey jugs that have been in my family for years. We’re going to use them as party decorations (as cool as it might be to serve booze out of these, they smell questionable at best. at least they’re pretty!). Ed got into the “spirit” after excitedly opening them the other day:
I’ve also been busy working with the party venue, Bang Bang Pies in Chicago, to hammer out fun details like pie flavors, ordering biscuits, and getting our butter bar squared away. We’ve also hammered out far less mouth-watering details like can we borrow your carafes? Should I bring ice? etc. In case you’re wondering, we’re going to be serving three kinds of pie that involve bourbon. A pecan bourbon pie, a chocolate chess bourbon caramel pie, and if cherries are in season, we’ll be enjoying a cherry bourbon pie as well. Yes. So tasty. This is a shot I snapped of a recent visit to Bang Bang, during which I enjoyed their house-roasted coffee, key lime pie, and a drool-worthy biscuit.
Let’s see, what else have I been up to with husband’s party? Ah! I also ordered vegetarian and beef jerky to serve to our guests who need some protein to balance out the sugar, carbs and alcohol.  Finally, I picked out what I’m going to wear to this completely amazing shindig. I was deciding between two new-to-me vintage dresses I’ve been dying to find an occasion, so I turned to Instagram and Facebook last week for your feedback. For those of you who’d like to see the two dress options and let me know what you think, here they are. Don’t worry if you like one more than the other – I’ve got a wedding to attend in July, and whichever one isn’t worn at whiskey party will be worn at the wedding.
(At the moment, Facebook and Instagram votes are leaning toward the blue getup for whiskey party, in case you were wondering.)
Lastly, mason jars have been purchased for votive candle holders as well as water, and an ice bucket and bourbon for the bourbon bar are being purchased today! I can’t wait to share pictures from the actual party in the coming weeks.
For those of you who missed what I’ve shared so far regarding the party, here’s a quick roundup.
