It’s probably pretty obvious I love Halloween, but I know not everyone does. Sometimes even Halloween lovers aren’t totally into the spirit, or we’re really too busy to put together a time-consuming costume. Today, with just a couple days until Halloween, I’ve got a super simple, but still cute idea for a dandelion costume that really does come together in minutes.
2 yellow feather boas
green & yellow clothes
green & yellow makeup (optional)
This project is simply a matter of turning two separate feather boas into one large feather cowl. Start by laying out your boas in two horseshoe shapes, with the ends facing each other.
Feather boas come with little loops of string on each end. Start by untwisting the strings. Draw a three inch piece of elastic through both loops, as shown.
Fold the ends of the elastic over each other, kind of like folding a letter into thirds to put it in an envelope. Sew straight across the elastic, through all three layers at once.
Tie a secure knot at the edge of your sewn elastic and snip off excess thread. Add a piece of elastic to the other set of loops using the same process. When you’re done, your boas will form one giant circle.
PS: If you’re really in a bind costume-wise, you can make the feather boa cowl (like really, in a car from the party store to the party) by simply tying the string ends of two boas together instead of using the elastic!
To make the costume come together, throw on a full outfit comprised solely of green and yellow clothing and wrap your long boa around and around your neck to form the flower part of the dandelion. If you want, you can add yellow and green eye makeup to finish the look. Ta da! Ready to party in under 5 minutes. Happy Halloween!
