How to Pick Up Stitches in Knitting

February 8, 2017 3 Comments

Learn how to pick up stitches in knitting. This easy video tutorial shows you how to pick up and knit stitches in a selvage edge.

One of the defining design elements of the new Rhombuster Scarf pattern is its picked up stitch border. Using a contrasting yarn, the bold border gives the scarf hard lines, really defining its contemporary, rhombusy shape. If you’re new to picking up stitches in knitting, I’ve shot a video tutorial for you demonstrating on the same yarn the Rhombuster was designed with. So if you’ve ever read the phrase “pick up and knit,” whether in the Rhombuster pattern or elsewhere, keep this video in your back pocket as a quick and easy reference. Enjoy!

Don’t forget about the giveaway! For the next couple weeks you can enter to win a Rhombuster Scarf Kit featuring three skeins of Spud & Chloe yarn, and whether or not you win the giveaway, you can use the code SITELAUNCH in the Hands Occupied Ravelry Shop to get the Rhombuster pattern for 40% off! Learn all about the giveaway and what we’re celebrating here.

Was looking forward to watching your video on “picking up stitches” along the edge of a garment, but
Was disappointed because my wrap is too long for the many stitches I would have to pick up.
Is there a simpler way for me to do this? My garment is “curling” ….and adding stitches is the way
To remedy this, I was told. Any suggestions are welcome, thank you Heidi,
    Dana

Happy to help, Dana! :) What pattern are you working on? Or what stitch is at the edge of your shawl that’s currently curling? -Heidi
