Even if you can’t make my knit in public meetup this weekend, or another one closer to you, you can still try one of my favorite yarn ideas of the week to fill the void created by missing knit in public day festivities.
There were some really amazing tassel & pom pom ideas on the blogs this week!
There were some super fun yarn ideas online this week! I feel like I say that a lot, but do you see that Star Wars mug cozy? The cute little amigurumi octopi?
As it’s officially March, we’re starting to see early signs of spring on blogs and in new pattern releases from designers. This transitional time tends to bring lighter outerwear, sweaters, and non-garment ideas.
Let’s look at some pretty yarn crafts as we look ahead to the weekend.
I’ve been busy all week planning, booking, crafting knitting and prepping for next Friday’s big Sweater Party benefitting Save the Children. If you haven’t heard, I’ll be hosting a party at Chicago’s Nina yarn store on Friday 12/12 from 5-7:30 pm, with all donations benefitting the Save the Children foundation. Basically, it’s going to be a fun, sweater-themed party to help us raise money for an awesome charity.
Ok, Christmas knitting and crochet season has officially begun! The blogs posted a bunch of adorable, kawaii-riffic patterns for everything from baby reindeer to Christmas lights this week, and it was awesome. Ideas like these make me want to cuddle up with a nice afghan, a few skeins of yarn, and a crochet hook for the winter. So, so cute.
Like many crafters, I learned my hand making skills from family members. She’s come up on this blog before, but one of my foremost crafty forebears was Great-Grandma Louise, who lived to age 102 and crafted nearly to the end. My mom was one of her 20 grandchildren, and the crochet poodle that led me down a rabbit hole (and eventually to this post) is one of her many creations.
Good lord, it’s Labor Day Weekend! As with other long weekends, I plan to spend the next few days finishing up a few works in progress on the beach (or on a porch in the rain – the weekend forecast isn’t looking amazing around here). It will probably be a good thing for me to avoid packing anything but my WIPs so they actually get done. There were some especially cute and fun knitting & crochet patterns and tutorials to be found on the blogs this week. Check out my faves!
