After assembling this month’s Things to Knit, it’s very clear that shawls were big among indie designers in June. Shawls, shawl-shaped sweaters, and wraps were published in full force. It’s no surprise – with their adaptability to different kinds of weather and suitability to lightweight yarns, shawls and wraps are kind of the perfect summer knit.
I love to browse Ravelry, blogs, magazines and Pinterest to round up the 10 patterns I’m most excited about that were released each month. May is a fantastic month to find inspiration because the spring and summer issues of magazines feature lots of interesting lightweight shawls and sweaters, plus fun toys and accessories.

In 2014, I really focused on blogging about knitting and crochet, and you guys were into it! The weekend’s coming early to Hands Occupied this week – I’ve gotta get to the church on time. Literally! I’m off to be a bridesmaid in my sister-in-law’s wedding. My outfit is ready and my bags are packed, so now it’s time to take a break and enjoy some knitting inspiration before my plane takes off for wedding land.
It’s been a full year of the Weekly Reader format we’ve come to know and love, so I’m thinking it’s time for a change. Instead of sharing random faves of the week every Friday, I think I’ll start sharing themed roundups that feature amazing projects from a little more than the past week. But! I’ll still share items that are fresh, focusing on the most recent month or two. Pinky swear!
