Berroco Aero Yarn Review & A BIG Giveaway!

August 13, 2018 2 Comments

Yarn & prizes provided for review & giveaway by Berroco. Opinions are my own.

Learn about Berroco Aero yarn, made of a light and lofty blend of alpaca, nylon, and wool. This yarn works up quickly with larger knitting needles and crochet hooks. The vivid color combinations work well with easy projects.
What if Lisa Frank had designed a yarn color? Well, I think Berroco yarns has the answer with one of their newest yarns, Aero, and its Aurora Borealis colorway. The whimsical fade of the yarn back and forth among yellow, green, blue and purple is makes working on otherwise-simple projects more engaging. Aero’s larger gauge coupled with its lightweight feel brings a lot to the knit and crochet table, especially for folks looking to work with a yarn that’s a bit different than what you might be used to. This alpaca, nylon & wool blend yarn is constructed in a tubular shape, giving it a lower density but larger gauge at the same time. If you’re looking to mix things up in your stash, Berroco’s Aero yarn is worth a closer look!

Berroco’s Aero yarn is ideal for simple projects. For one, it’s currently available in 8 vivid, variegated colorways, many of which feature ombre-like effects or contrasting colors that help make basic accessories sing. For another, the recommended needle and hook sizes are 9 mm (that’s a US 13 needle and US M hook), which gives your work a bigger gauge so it can come together quickly. Quick project lovers rejoice – this yarn is for you!

The Yarn: Berroco Aero

Colorway pictured: Aurora Borealis 8104
Skein details:
 50g (1.75 oz.) skeins / 164 yds / 150 m / 65% Alpaca, 28% Nylon, 7% Wool / DK weight
Knitting needles: US 13, 9 mm / 12 stitches & 16 rows over 4 inches (10 cm)
Crochet hook: US M, 9 mm / 10 sc & 11 rows over 4 inches (10 cm)
Cons: The name Aero is spot on for this yarn. Some folks might need a moment to adapt to working with a yarn this airy.
Pros: It’s different! If you’re looking to try a new kind of yarn, this is a refreshing, fun option. And it comes in a bunch of great, variegated colors that do the hard (color)work for you.
Pattern Ideas: This is a great yarn for accessories and lighter sweaters. The Classic Slouchy Beanie pattern is a great pick for knitters, and crocheters might like to try this as a colorful Round Granny Cushion!

“You’re telling me words can be pronounced in “You’re telling me words can be pronounced in different ways and mean the same things?!” 👀 Posting this here, just to make it clear: when anyone says skayne, skeen, or skyne, it can be safely assumed we’re talking about a bundle o’ yarn, a SKEIN. It’s not necessary to shame someone for using a word that is known to have MULTIPLE common pronunciations. 🧶
.
.
Can you plz comment sharing how you say SKEIN and where you learned it? The OED happens to say SKAYNE, but it’s not a personal attack if someone says SKEEN and you say SKYNE or even Saskatoon. I’m legitimately curious. We don’t all knit or crochet the same way, and craft evolves a bit like language - it is passed on. There is so much value in having conversations about & embracing these variations! ✌🏻

Sometimes my weekend projects involve hair rather Sometimes my weekend projects involve hair rather than yarn. Here’s the latest mediocre-but-improving result of my slow quest to learn to set vintage inspired curls. 💇🏼‍♀️ I’m hoping to be able to wash my hair less using a regular vintage set, but we’ll see if it ends up being practical. 😆 Hair frustrates me so much more than crafts!
