How to Crochet Bobbles

April 9, 2018 Leave a Comment

The Bobble Stitch is great for adding texture and dimension to your crochet! Learn how to work double crochet bobbles and triple crochet bobbles.
If you’ve ever spent time scrolling through crochet patterns on Ravelry or Pinterest for project inspiration, chances are you’ve seen at least one bobble stitch in your life. Bobble stitches can be found in all kinds of crochet, adding texture and dimension to an otherwise-flat piece of fabric. The good news, especially if you’re a newer crocheter, is that if you can manage a double crochet stitch, you can manage a double crochet bobble. And the same goes for triple crochet bobbles! Let’s tackle how to work double and triple crochet bobble stitches.

These tutorials were inspired by our current Read Along Crochet Along featuring the Worker Bee Bag, a pattern that uses double and triple crochet bobbles in a bunch of fun ways! If you’re curious to learn more about RALCAL or the pattern, check out this post. :)

Double Crochet Bobbles

For a double crochet bobble, you simply need to work a double crochet stitch over and over, minus one step. Check out this video for identifying which step to skip, how to keep track of the number of loops on your hook, and how to avoid skipping a stitch after working a DC bobble.

Triple Crochet Bobbles

Hey guess what? If you can do a double crochet bobble, you can do a triple! TR bobbles are worked just like DC bobbles, but with one more wrap involved (just like the difference between plain DC and TR stitches). Check out this tutorial for a breakdown of TR bobbles:

Peg boards and craft room organization go together Peg boards and craft room organization go together like peanut butter and jelly. So, as you can see, do latch hook tools and screwdriver organizers! 🪛
.
I think this trick translates to any tool with a thick handle, so leather working tools, punch needles, print making tools, etc. should work! What other tools am I, a needlecrafter, blanking on right now?

Pegboard storage is my favorite for craft supplies Pegboard storage is my favorite for craft supplies, so getting a few hung in my new studio has been a priority. Here’s my first attempt. 🔨
.
Details: This pegboard panel is for organizing my knitting needles, latch hook tools, sewing thread, etc. It doesn’t need to hold much weight, so I didn’t anchor this into a stud - just used basic drywall anchors. I’ve also got a set of two 2’x4’ panels for another spot in my studio, and those will need a stud/more than 3 drywall anchors. Wish me luck!

June’s big ears can get cold in winter, so I’m improvising a doggie ear warmer/hood for her. What are the odds she tries to shred it immediately when it’s done?
