Shepherd’s Lamb Rambouillet Yarn Review & Giveaway

April 24, 2019 Leave a Comment

Yarn was provided for review & giveaway by Shepherd’s Lamb. Opinions are my own.

Shepherd's Lamb 100% Certified Organic Rambouillet Wool Yarn Review & Giveaway

Lately, I’ve been really really digging good old, country style wool yarns. (Yes, despite the fact that it’s about to be May, ha!) It’s the kind of yarn that just makes you feel grounded and solid while you work with it. It’s a little more down to earth, very pleasant and homey in your hands. In honor of Earth Day this week, I give you one such yarn – a 100% certified organic wool number from Shepherd’s Lamb: Rambouillet Yarn. This 2-ply sport weight yarn is a joy to knit & crochet with for wool lovers, especially those who care for the environment!

This yarn is hand-dyed with something called low-impact prepared powder dyes. Shepherd’s Lamb yarns come from New Mexico, a place where water is a precious resource. The dyeing process used to make Rambouillet yarn is suited to dry climates because it requires very little water and is done in small batches due to the time-consuming nature of this natural dye process. Also, most of the natural dye materials used to make this line of gorgeous yarns are gathered by hand from northern New Mexico, which is SO COOL.

THE YARN: Shepherd’s Lamb Rambouillet Wool

Colorway pictured: Razzleberry
Skein details:
180 yards/165 meters per skein // 2.0 ounces/57g per skein // 100% Certified Organic Wool // Sport Weight
Knitting needles: US 6, 4 mm / 16 stitches & 22 rows over 4 inches (10 cm)
Crochet hook: US G-6, 4 mm / 18 sc & 24 rows over 4 inches (10 cm)
Cons: If you like your superwash yarn (which is basically coated in plastic, btw), you might not love having to launder your handmade items super carefully.
Pros: Can we talk about how gorgeous this Razzleberry color is? Ugh, I just love it! One of the most perfect reds, especially in real life, in my humble opinion.
Pattern Ideas: Crocheters, get yourself a few colors of this stuff and hook up a Ripple Wrap! It would be so warm! And knitters, you might want to consider the Golden Check Infinity Scarf, which was designed exactly for a yarn like this!

Get your hands on the free crochet pattern for the Ripple Wrap! The Ripple Wrap is a four-color take on one of the most universally-recognized crochet stitches: the ripple stitch. Seen in afghan patterns in grandmothers' houses everywhere, the ripple stitch creates a fun zig zag pattern that opens up tons of possibilities for color combos.

(What can I say, I lost a game of yarn chicken. 😂) I almost didn’t post this because I was worried someone might have some nonsense to say about my ability to knit. Then I remembered I can’t care about that. Silly me, I almost forgot myself!

Speaking of which, dang it’s good to have my mental health back consistently after the past couple of years. The confident parts of me that matter have me creating (and starting to share my creations & process with strangers and friends) again!
