August Sponsor Spotlight at Hands Occupied

Welcome to the first Sponsor Spotlight! This is where I take a look at our sponsors for the month and share some of my favorite things about them. Up first, we’ve got Ewe Ewe Yarns and PostStitch. :)

Ewe Ewe Yarns

Ewe Ewe Yarns is a wholesale yarn company specializing in merino wool and modern knitting patterns. They make Ewe So Sporty and Wooly Worsted yarn, and their site features a ton of great, colorful patterns for everything from shawls to baby sweaters. I met Heather, the owner, at The National Needlearts Association conference this year, and we quickly bonded over our shared H-names and, obviously, love of knitting.

My favorite items from Ewe Ewe are #1, the yarn, because of the bright, lovely colors both the Wooly Worsted and Ewe So Sporty come in. Celebrating those colors is my other favorite Ewe Ewe item, the Rainbows and Unicorns Wrap by my pal and fellow YarnTalk host, Leah Coccari-Swift.

PostStitch

I first learned about PostStitch at Vogue Knitting Live Chicago last fall. PostStitch sells monthly subscription boxes featuring everything you need to knit a project. Their BigStitch box features one adult woman’s garment/accessory project with all the tools you need to knit it start to finish, while the SockStitch box features one woman’s sock project with printed pattern, yarn, and extras. I got to try out one of their BigStitch boxes last year and loved it.

In addition to the kits, they also have a shop where you can get knitting kits, notions and fun knitting gifts. Two of my favorite picks from the PostStitch shop are the Emoji KnittingTote and the Fix It Stitch Markers. Just look at ’em! I wonder if I can get that knitting emoji keyboard for my phone… ;)

“You’re telling me words can be pronounced in “You’re telling me words can be pronounced in different ways and mean the same things?!” 👀 Posting this here, just to make it clear: when anyone says skayne, skeen, or skyne, it can be safely assumed we’re talking about a bundle o’ yarn, a SKEIN. It’s not necessary to shame someone for using a word that is known to have MULTIPLE common pronunciations. 🧶
.
.
Can you plz comment sharing how you say SKEIN and where you learned it? The OED happens to say SKAYNE, but it’s not a personal attack if someone says SKEEN and you say SKYNE or even Saskatoon. I’m legitimately curious. We don’t all knit or crochet the same way, and craft evolves a bit like language - it is passed on. There is so much value in having conversations about & embracing these variations! ✌🏻

Sometimes my weekend projects involve hair rather Sometimes my weekend projects involve hair rather than yarn. Here’s the latest mediocre-but-improving result of my slow quest to learn to set vintage inspired curls. 💇🏼‍♀️ I’m hoping to be able to wash my hair less using a regular vintage set, but we’ll see if it ends up being practical. 😆 Hair frustrates me so much more than crafts!

Do you also style your hair using vintage methods? If you have any tips for vintage hair styling or good resources to share, please do!
