If you love a knitting stitch with a LOT of puffy texture, the Dimple Stitch is for you! Learn to knit this fun stitch that lives precisely up to its name in a new video tutorial.

It’s kind of cool when a knitting stitch lives so precisely up to its name! 🤓 The stitch we’re exploring today is the Dimple Stitch, which features a gorgeous and interesting right and wrong side, despite not technically being reversible. The sweater I think this particular stitch would look beautiful for is a thick, elbow-length number with distinct rockabilly energy. The thick fabric? C’mon!

Dimple Stitch: Wrong Side

Dimple Stitch

In Barbara Walker’s A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns, Dimple Stitch is described: “Slipped strands, caught up 4 rows later, are used to pull this bold, puffy fabric together. The wrong side, which might serve just as well as as right side, shows a deep honeycomb formation in purl stitches.”

As you can see, Walker was correct in describing this stitch as “pulled together.” Not entirely unlike creating the repeating butterfly motif of the Little Bow Stitch (find a tutorial here), strands of yarn are carried across a few slipped stitches before being gathered up from below, resulting in a knit fabric with serious texture.

If you look closely, you’ll see I’m casually k If you look closely, you’ll see I’m casually knitting from one sweater into another here, no big deal. (What can I say, I lost a game of yarn chicken. 😂) I almost didn’t post this because I was worried someone might have some nonsense to say about my ability to knit. Then I remembered I can’t care about that. Silly me, I almost forgot myself!

Speaking of which, dang it’s good to have my mental health back consistently after the past couple of years. The anxious parts of my personality are just chilling, rather than constantly screaming that my work isn’t good enough to share. The confident parts of me that matter have me creating (and starting to share my creations & process with strangers and friends) again!
