My Family’s Crafts: Embroidered Antique Dish Towel

April 12, 2012 Leave a Comment

Sigh. I just love unearthing my family’s crafts! Every time I share one of these posts, it gives me an excuse to call my mom or grandma and learn about them. I’ve had this embroidered dish towel in my craft room accenting my yarn stash for years, but had misplaced it until my recent craft room reorganization project.

I really, truly owe my love of crafting to my mom, who made sure my brother and I had plenty of opportunities to create our butts off as kids. We always had supplies on hand, and my mom and dad both taught us a lot of crafting and building skills I use constantly.

I could go on about how they, in turn, learned their crafting & making skills from their parents, but I’m supposed to be telling you about the story behind this adorably embroidered Campbell’s Soup Kid dish towel! My mom embroidered this while babysitting in high school in the ’70s. My mom also embroidered a denim shirt with the Campbell’s Soup Kids on it for her sister, my aunt Rita, who has awesome formerly-blond-now-brunette curly hair. Really, I need to find a picture of her as a kid – Rita did look like the Soup Kids. Adorable. But everyone in my family is super attractive, so, be jealous.

Without further ado, here’s knitting embroidered Campbell’s Soup girl on a dish towel!
