Skeins in the Stacks Review & Giveaway

November 20, 2017 2 Comments

Learn about Skeins in the Stacks, a bookish yarn company that makes hand-dyed yarns using natural elements from Alaska.
If you didn’t end up getting lucky enough to win the big giveaway for the Read Along Knit Along, I have some bookish-meets-yarnish good news! I’ve teamed up with indie yarn company Skeins in the Stacks to bring you a second chance to win some awesome yarn. Much like this here blog, Skeins in the Stacks is run by a lady Librarian! With the tagline, “for the love of books, libraries, and yarn,” you know you’re looking at yarn that has a story to tell. Her colorways are all inspired by notable books & characters. The lovely, subtle pink color pictured is called Mrs. Cranberry, and it’s inspired by Peter in Blueberry Land by Elsa Beskow. Hand picked wild Alaskan cranberries were used to create this beautiful yarn, so in addition to being conceptually tied to the book, there’s also a story connected to how the yarn was dyed in Alaska.

The Yarn: Skeins in the Stacks’ 500 Austen

Colorway pictured: Mrs. Cranberry
Skein details:
218 yards / 100 g / 100% worsted merino superwash wool
Knitting needles: US 8, 5 mm / 16 stitches & 22 rows over 4 inches
Crochet hook: US I-9, 5.5 mm / 15 sc & 18 rows over 4 inches
Cons: They’re currently on a wee break and will be available for orders again Monday, November 20 at 5 p.m. AKST., according to their Etsy shop. Yarn from this adorable yarn company is worth adding to your holiday wish list!
Pros: If you’re looking to make something hand dyed with handpicked wild Alaskan berries (because why wouldn’t you want to do that?), this yarn offers you the unique opportunity to do so. And just look at the color! Even neutral lovers can get behind a soft pink like this one.
Pattern ideas: The Le Pom Blanket would be gorgeous knit up in this colorway! For crochet, the Granny Tassel Shawl would be beautiful knit in a couple of Skeins in the Stacks’ naturally-sourced colorways.

Instagram post 18043011205209234 Happy weekend, everyone! There are several new faces today, so to you, I say welcome! 😊 I’m Heidi, the knitting, crochet and yarn crafts designer behind Hands Occupied. I’m based in Chicago, where I work out of a small studio space, the Hands Occupied Studio. Every week I host an open Craft Night and on the last Sunday of the month we have a Crafternoon. They’re all free and open to anyone who wants to hang out and craft with others (snacks are always welcome!). .
.

A little about me: I’m a knit and crochet pattern designer, but I’m really about all things string, from crochet to macramé. Lately I’ve been particularly obsessed with contemporary latch hook and punch needle trends. However, in my recent handmade wardrobe projects I’ve been drawn to everything vintage. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Funny how that works! 😆.
.

In addition to the blog, design work, and the Studio, I co-host the Very @seriouscrafts Podcast, a top 10-ranked crafts podcast heading into our third season in 2020! 🎙 That about covers it - thanks so much for indulging a long caption 🙏🏼 , and I’m so glad to have you here! ☺️❤️💛💙 #handsoccupied #veryseriouscrafts

Instagram post 18006397024263184 How adorable is Storm and her little ironing board step stool? 😭 .

Seems like a good excuse to let y’all know that the #handsoccupiedstudio schedule for Craft Nights and Crafternoons has been updated through 1/8! .
.

Head to the link in bio to update your calendars- Christmas & New Years Days both land on Wednesday this year, so there will not be Craft Night those days, but we WILL have Crafternoon on 12/29 from noon to 4 as usual. I imagine it’ll be a great time to detox from family time. Not that anyone will need it by the 29th... 🎄😜
