The new Washi Tape Craft Crafts book from Amy Anderson of Mod Podge Rocks is super adorable and packed with fun, easy DIYs!

Longtime readers of this blog will recall a time when I was sharing general crafts as my bread and butter. As I got my footing and found my calling as a yarn craft & pattern designer, I had many adventures, including writing for other blogs. One of my favorite blog contributor gigs was with Mod Podge Rocks! from Amy Anderson, who also runs the blog Washi Tape Crafts.

Colorblock wall clock DIY by Heidi Gustad of Hands Occupied in Amy Anderson's new book, Washi Tape Crafts

When Amy asked me to design a project for her book based on the Washi Tape Crafts blog, which also shares its name, I accepted without hesitation. It was a shockingly fast process! I’ve gotten so used to the slow process of knit design (which inclues test knitting, tech editing, etc.) that the relatively short turnaround of designing and making an easy clock project with washi tape was almost startling.

The book Washi Tape Crafts not only shows you all of the washi tape techniques and ideas you need to know, but it comes with a pack of washi tape to get you crafting asap.

Designing for this book reminded me of the beauty of quick DIYs: the satisfaction of finishing something quickly. And that’s what the book is all about! Featuring over 100 ways to brighten up everyday items in no time, Washi Tape Crafts is super giftable, complete with 10 rolls of custom-designed washi tape you can’t find elsewhere.

“You’re telling me words can be pronounced in “You’re telling me words can be pronounced in different ways and mean the same things?!” 👀 Posting this here, just to make it clear: when anyone says skayne, skeen, or skyne, it can be safely assumed we’re talking about a bundle o’ yarn, a SKEIN. It’s not necessary to shame someone for using a word that is known to have MULTIPLE common pronunciations. 🧶
.
.
Can you plz comment sharing how you say SKEIN and where you learned it? The OED happens to say SKAYNE, but it’s not a personal attack if someone says SKEEN and you say SKYNE or even Saskatoon. I’m legitimately curious. We don’t all knit or crochet the same way, and craft evolves a bit like language - it is passed on. There is so much value in having conversations about & embracing these variations! ✌🏻

Sometimes my weekend projects involve hair rather Sometimes my weekend projects involve hair rather than yarn. Here’s the latest mediocre-but-improving result of my slow quest to learn to set vintage inspired curls. 💇🏼‍♀️ I’m hoping to be able to wash my hair less using a regular vintage set, but we’ll see if it ends up being practical. 😆 Hair frustrates me so much more than crafts!
.
Do you also style your hair using vintage methods? If you have any tips for vintage hair styling or good resources to share, please do!
