Weekly Reader, May 24, 2013 - HandsOccupied.com

An outtake from this week’s tutorial shoot. Out of focus, but this made me laugh. Self timers wait for no yawn…

This week slipped by rather quickly and quietly for me. I have been busy with a lot of projects. You can see from my Instagram highlights below that I’ve been painting some styrofoam, I cleaned up after a mouse decimated a rice-filled pin cushion for dinner (leaving behind its weight in turds – yuck), and I’ve been slowly trying to reorganize my craft space. I did find a sweet vintage sewing book I’d stashed away – complete with creepy illustrations.

My husband started a new job this week (note the snap from our post-his-last-day outing for vegetarian BBQ and beer, second from the right), which has meant some changes are going on in our lives. I’m still mulling over how I feel about all this change, so maybe I’ll open up and post about it soon…

Reads

I want to spend as much of Memorial Day weekend as I can reading, so I checked out The Aviator’s Wife, The Magicians, and Tell the Wolves I’m Home. So far, I’m 100 pages into The Aviator’s Wife, which is a little out of my personal reading comfort zone with the historical romance, but it’s looking like the plot’s about to thicken. I’ll keep you posted.

Movies/Shows

I take back my glowing recommendation, Call the Midwife. Season 2, episode 8 featured absurd crocheknitting. Observe two needles poked through a granny square. What a derp, guys!

A note on Very Serious Crafts: In the post I discuss stepping away from the @seriouscrafts podcast to give myself more time to devote to some minor medical issues.
