It’s the Delta Hat Knit Along!

I love knit alongs! I’m so excited to be partnering with Bijou Basin Ranch on this knit along for my new Delta Hat pattern. I’ll be sharing blog posts here throughout the KAL, and we’ll be chatting a ton and sharing our progress in the Hands Occupied Ravelry Group. With a full rainbow of colors to choose from, I can’t wait to see the many color and button combos people knit Delta Hats in!

#DeltaHatKAL – the details!

The knit along runs through August 31. This cute hat is really fun to knit, and just challenging enough to keep things interesting as you go. The more hats you knit, the more chances you have to win prizes. It’s too bad, really, that I can’t enter to win these prizes! The thing with the design process is that I’ve now knit the Delta about 7 times, including one sample I knit for Stitches Midwest that I made while enduring a 102° F fever. If I pulled that one off, you can knit a Delta by 8/31, I promise! If you get stuck, holler at me in the Ravlery group or comments section. I’m 102% happy to help! ;)

1 skein Himalayan Trail yarn from Bijou Basin Ranch (there are 25 colors to choose from btw!)
3 Balwen Wood tool handle buttons*
size 3 US needles
tapestry needle

Stitches Midwest Recap

I spent last Friday at Stitches Midwest in the Chicago suburbs, hanging out in the Bijou Basin Ranch booth, meeting knitters & talking about the KAL. Throughout the day, Bijou sold a whole bunch of kits for the Delta Hat, which included the yarn, buttons and pattern needed for the KAL. We sold 20 kits in the first 5 hours, which was amazing!

As I suspected, sitting next to a poster with my face on it was super weird! I got to meet a ton of really excited knitters who were so, so nice. Lots of ladies tried on and got to check out the Delta up close, and they had a lot of great feedback. Universally, everybody – including me – loved the reclaimed wood buttons from Balwen that came with the hat kits. With 25 colors to choose from, plus their choice of buttons, lots of knitters picked their colors and came back by my little table to chat about which buttons to choose. That was pretty fun!

The other thing Stitches-goers agreed on was how surprisingly lightweight the 75% yak/25% merino is, while still being warm. It was cool getting to meet people who are big yak yarn fans who were new to my work, and they had some other pluses to share about yak yarn garments. One great one that stood out for this hat is yak’s water-resistance as a fiber. It’s not fully waterproof, of course, but when it drizzles, your hat won’t immediately sponge up all of that moisture, which is nice in a hat, no?
