Vogue Knitting Live Chicago

Vogue Knitting Live Chicago 2014 | HandsOccupied.com

Holy cow, my last few days were busy! Luckily, it’s because I was at the Chicago installment of Vogue Knitting Live, and it was all incredible amounts of fun. I naively thought that I’d be sharing the next installment of the fall sweater knit along today, but since this week’s step involves attaching the sleeves to the sweater body, I realized that I was going to need an extra day if I was going to share something sensical at all. Instead, I’ll share a window into what goes on at a knitting conference.

Vogue Knitting Live Chicago 2014 - Catherine Lowe Color One Row at a Time Class

a snap of my class with Catherine Lowe

For one thing, there were classes and lectures on everything from beginning to advanced knitting techniques. There’s also a marketplace with incredible yarns, needles and all the accessories you’ll ever need. You could try out the newest yarns in a yarn tasting lounge, and you could learn to knit if you’re a newbie. A ball winding station was available for combobulating new yarn purchases, and several fashion shows and tons of impromptu knitting circles happened around every corner of the hotel hosting the conference. My brain is currently a tangle of new techniques, friends, and ideas, but it’s so worth it!

A note on Very Serious Crafts: In the post I discuss stepping away from the @seriouscrafts podcast to give myself more time to devote to some minor medical issues. Don’t you worry - my health will be fine, & @molliejohanson @redhandledscissors and I are still pals, and after a short break of their own, the podcast will be back! Just sans moi. 💁🏼‍♀️😆
