Fleur de lis Bar Ring

April 21, 2014 2 Comments

Fleur de lis Bar Ring at Hands Occupied

This ring is fun to make and accessorize with. Bar rings can be a little challenging to DIY, but they’re so rad! Plus the copper color and fleur de lis design are totally hardcore, which makes this fun too. So heat up your glue guns and grab some strong adhesive to whip up a bar ring of your own.

Supplies

mod melts
mod melts royal icon mold
high temp glue gun
2 ring blanks
jewelry pliers
E6000 adhesive
metallic craft paint
paint brush

Directions

Plug in your glue gun, loaded with a Mod Melts stick, to warm up. Meanwhile, bend one ring blank (if yours didn’t come finger-sized) around the middle finger of one hand, and bend another around the ring finger of the same hand.

Use a pair of pliers to rough up the surface of each ring blank.

By now your Mod Melt should be thoroughly be heated up. Fill the long line of fleur de lis shapes in your royal icons mold with Mod Melts liquid.

Let set for 10 minutes to harden completely before removing from the mold. Check your fleur de lis piece for defects in the mold and re-cast it if necessary.

Place the fleur de lis back in the mold and rough up the back with your pliers.

Working in a well ventilated area, put some E6000 adhesive on the center of the fleur de lis piece. Carefully place your ring blanks on it, ensuring your positioning them so the fleur de lis will be right side up when you wear the ring. Since this is a bar ring, you need to remember that it’s designed for a specific hand. The two rings are sized to two differently sized fingers and you’ll probably want the fleur de lis piece to face up. Just something to keep in mind when you place the rings!

Let your ring dry for at least 24 hours to set, and then paint over the whole thing with copper paint. Let dry before wearing.

Doesn’t the ring look so much fancier than it should? The finished ring is way cooler than you’d expect a hot glue gun DIY to be!

I originally shared this project at Mod Podge Rocks!.

1. I knit this bottom up with scraps and ran out of black yarn. If the vest consistently drifts down her chest upon wear, I might extend the collar or redo the chest panel at a smaller size. If you’ve read this far, what do you think? As a designer, I so rarely get to improvise a knitting project, and I’m having fun working with fewer rules than usual. 🧶
