Mango Moon Twist Review & Giveaway!

March 27, 2017 5 Comments

Mango Moon Twist yarn - see how this linen/cotton blend yarn knits and crochets up, and enter to win a skein!
As promised, I’m trying to give you guys a new yarn review and giveaway each month as a way to help you shake up your stash! This month we’ll be taking a look at Mango Moon Yarns’ Twist, an 85% linen/15% cotton blend yarn that’s perfect for warmer weather knit and crochet. To prep for this review, I got my hands on a few skeins of Mango Moon Twist in their Boysenberry colorway – one to try and two to give away. Using US size 5 needles and an F hook, I made two 4 by 4 (ish) inch swatches (and wet blocked them) to see how this yarn behaves for both knitting and crochet projects. Read on for the verdict!

As with last month, I’m still totally open to ideas and suggestions for this review series – just let me know your thoughts in the comments! If you’re looking to skip to the giveaway, you can scroll to the bottom of this post to enter.

The Yarn: Mango Moon Twist

Skein details: 175 yards / 160 m / 1.7 oz. / 50g / sport weight / 85% Linen, 15% Cotton
Knitting needles: US 5, 3.75 mm / 18 stitches & 21 rows over 4 inches
Crochet hook: US F, 3.75 mm / 20 sc over 4 inches
Cons: Not everyone loves working with linen yarn. Your works in progress will look different after wet blocking, but that’s a fact of life when working with any linen yarn.
Pros: This yarn is a perfect way to change up your knitting & crochet game, particularly in the spring and summer, and the 10 heathered colors Mango Moon Twist comes in are unique and fun.
Pattern ideas: Try the Amigurumi Poodle Nail Polish Cover for crochet or the English Lace Scarf for knitting.

Hi Heidi, if the blocked and unblocked swatches are markedly different, maybe you could show a side-by-side comparison? Just an idea!

“You’re telling me words can be pronounced in “You’re telling me words can be pronounced in different ways and mean the same things?!” 👀 Posting this here, just to make it clear: when anyone says skayne, skeen, or skyne, it can be safely assumed we’re talking about a bundle o’ yarn, a SKEIN. It’s not necessary to shame someone for using a word that is known to have MULTIPLE common pronunciations. 🧶

.
Can you plz comment sharing how you say SKEIN and where you learned it? The OED happens to say SKAYNE, but it’s not a personal attack if someone says SKEEN and you say SKYNE or even Saskatoon. I’m legitimately curious. We don’t all knit or crochet the same way, and craft evolves a bit like language - it is passed on. There is so much value in having conversations about & embracing these variations! ✌🏻

Sometimes my weekend projects involve hair rather Sometimes my weekend projects involve hair rather than yarn. Here’s the latest mediocre-but-improving result of my slow quest to learn to set vintage inspired curls. 💇🏼‍♀️ I’m hoping to be able to wash my hair less using a regular vintage set, but we’ll see if it ends up being practical. 😆 Hair frustrates me so much more than crafts!

Do you also style your hair using vintage methods? If you have any tips for vintage hair styling or good resources to share, please do!
