May 18, 2017 Leave a Comment

Learn all about Mountain Meadow Wool's Alpine yarn and enter to win a skein to try for yourself!
Attention, earthy yarn lovers! This one’s for you. Mountain Meadow Wool is a family operated spinning mill located in western Wyoming, and they sent me a skein of their DK weight yarn, Alpine, to review, plus another to give away. Scroll just a little to find the nuts & bolts overview of Alpine, and to fast forward to the giveaway, head to the bottom of this post.

An unabashed color fanatic, this yarn spoke to me immediately. Specifically the yellow-orange colorway I requested, Sorrel, called my name from its tiny thumbnail image on the Mountain Meadow Wool website. The color doesn’t disappoint in real life! Assuming all of the Alpine colorways are this rich and deep, I absolutely would knit with it again for the color alone!

The Yarn: Mountain Meadow Wool Alpine

Colorway pictured: Sorrel
Skein details:
260 yards / 3.5 oz. / 100g / 3 ply DK / 100% Mountain Merino Targhee
Knitting needles: US 7, 4.5 mm / 16 stitches & 23 rows over 4 inches
Crochet hook: US H, 5 mm / 16 sc & 18 rows over 4 inches
Cons: What can I say? Not everybody loves 100% wool.
Pros: If it wasn’t clear already, the colors are super legit. And this made-in-the-USA, DK weight lovely is genuinely really nice to work with. It really feels connected to its source, which can be all too rare in yarn.
Pattern ideas: I really think knitting a tighter version of the Faux Woven Cowl when colder temps come would be lovely with this yarn. For crochet, this yarn would make a lovely Bell Ornament. Can you just imagine how good that color would look on a Christmas tree? So good!

Working on a sample for some upcoming videos. It’s an overcast day with intermittent sunshine & I have a scruffy little sidecar. 🐶 Can’t complain!

Peg boards and craft room organization go together Peg boards and craft room organization go together like peanut butter and jelly. So, as you can see, do latch hook tools and screwdriver organizers! 🪛
.
I think this trick translates to any tool with a thick handle, so leather working tools, punch needles, print making tools, etc. should work! What other tools am I, a needlecrafter, blanking on right now?

Pegboard storage is my favorite for craft supplies Pegboard storage is my favorite for craft supplies, so getting a few hung in my new studio has been a priority. Here’s my first attempt. 🔨
.
Details: This pegboard panel is for organizing my knitting needles, latch hook tools, sewing thread, etc. It doesn’t need to hold much weight, so I didn’t anchor this into a stud - just used basic drywall anchors. I’ve also got a set of two 2’x4’ panels for another spot in my studio, and those will need a stud/more than 3 drywall anchors. Wish me luck!

June’s big ears can get cold in winter, so I’m improvising a doggie ear warmer/hood for her. What are the odds she tries to shred it immediately when it’s done?
